Headlines

  • Trump postpones Iran ultimatum, claims "very good" talks are underway. He'd threatened to "obliterate" Iran's power plants within 48 hours if Tehran didn't reopen the Strait of Hormuz. On Monday he extended the deadline by five days, saying the US and Iran are negotiating. Iran's Foreign Ministry says there are no talks and Trump "retreated out of fear." Make of that what you will.
  • 3.75 lakh Indians now repatriated from West Asia. PM Modi addressed the Lok Sabha with the updated number. That's up from 2.68 lakh just two days ago — a hundred thousand people in a weekend. Kuwait and Bahrain continue to see the largest outflows.
  • Rupee crashes to all-time low of 93.89 against the dollar. Down 33 paise in early trade. If you're sending money home, this is the worst rate in history. If you're receiving money from India, congratulations — but that's not most of us.
  • NDA finalises Tamil Nadu seat-sharing. BJP gets 27 of 234 seats, AIADMK takes 178, PMK gets 18, AMMK gets 11. The arithmetic is clear: BJP is still the junior partner in the south, no matter what Delhi says.
  • 90 drug samples found unapproved by DCGI. Includes common combinations like paracetamol and multivitamins. Drug Controller General has asked states to take action. Worth checking your medicine cabinet if you stocked up on your last trip home.

Weather

  • Delhi: 35°C, generally cloudy with a chance of light drizzle in the afternoon. The IMD says temperatures are "above normal." Everyone in Delhi already knew that.
  • Mumbai: 34°C, humid. Sea breeze keeping the coast tolerable but the UV index is "very high." Stay indoors during peak hours if you're visiting.
  • Bengaluru: 31°C, dry heat. No rain expected. Still the one city that doesn't make you regret stepping outside.
  • Chennai: 34°C, humid. RealFeel closer to 38°C thanks to moisture. Pre-summer has arrived.

Markets

  • Sensex: 72,696 (−1,837 pts / −2.46%) — 26 of 30 components in the red
  • Nifty: 22,513 (−602 pts / −2.60%) — worst single-day drop in three weeks
  • USD/INR: 93.89 — fresh all-time low for the rupee
  • GBP/INR: 125.34
  • CAD/INR: 68.61
  • Brent crude: Swung wildly — touched $114, then crashed to $104 after Trump's comments about talks with Iran. Currently around $101.

The Strait of Hormuz ultimatum spooked markets at open. Then Trump's "very good talks" comment triggered a 10% oil selloff in hours, which dragged Brent from $114 to $101. Indian markets didn't recover — FPIs have now sold close to ₹90,000 crore of Indian equities in March alone, on track for the heaviest monthly foreign outflow since October 2024. The rupee is paying the price.

Sports

  • IPL 2026 starts March 28. Five days. BCCI confirmed the schedule: RCB vs SRH at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, 3:30 PM. Not CSK vs RCB as earlier rumoured. Fan Parks will run across 15 cities in 11 states for the first three weeks.
  • IPL expanded to 84 matches this season. Each team plays 16 round-robin matches, up from 14 last year. The tournament runs March 28 to May 31. Your sleep schedule is about to get worse.
  • Para-badminton: Pramod Bhagat won 2 golds and a silver, Sukant Kadam clinched singles gold and doubles silver at the Spanish Para Badminton International 2026. The kind of achievement that deserves a headline but rarely gets one.
